Australian Museum: Australia through Time

Discover Australia’s evolving landscape, the history of First Nations’ peoples, dinosaurs, megafauna, and other extinct organisms, using fossils and archaeological evidence at the Australian Museum. Students will interact with digital 3D scans of fossils in the classroom and learn how the Museum is using 3D scanning to research the objects in its collection.

Stage 5 Science

Sydney Olympic Park: Get Tangled In a Wetland Web

Come with us on a wondrous wetland walk deep into Sydney Olympic Parks Badu Mangroves. Learn about how the Wangal were the first environmental managers of this area and how they sustainably harvested wetland resources. Search for living things that call this harsh environment their home and discover how some of the wetlands permanent residents have adapted (behavioural and structural adaptations) to survive an environment that gets flooded day in and day out! Students will also help us undertake fieldwork to learn more about the behavioural adaptations of the mangrove crabs.

Stage 4 – Living World “How do living things survive in this inter-tidal wetland”
Stage 4 – Syllabus Outcome LW1.

Sydney Water: There’s lots to learn about water

Water is an amazing and precious resource. We rarely stop and think about it.

  • Explore the wonder of water: Get students excited with this fascinating and miraculous substance that we take for granted with water science experiments and demonstrations, such as separation techniques in Chemical World, suitable for primary and high school students.
  • Science in practice: Find out how science in the classroom is fundamental to our engineers and scientists for sustainable water management. Inspire your students to use their working scientifically skills and knowledge to help recreate processes through practical investigations. Challenge them to solve real-world problems and plan for the future.

Fizzics Education: Liquid Nitrogen Show

  • Find out how solids, liquids and gases change when rapidly heated and cooled.
  • Smash a tennis ball! Shrink a balloon instantly!
  • How can Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion explain a liquid nitrogen sprinkler?
  • Explore Charles Law using popping cans and expanding balloons.
  • Just what is the Leidenfrost effect anyway and more…
